Sigil School~ Get a behind-the-scenes look at the teaching format of Amy Sigil in this interactive split session with UNMATA. In the first half of class, Amy will share her experience, ideas, and dance doctrine as well as answer your questions. In the second half of class, you will get on your feet for a Sigil School whirlwind demonstration. Tag words: warm-ups, transitions, music, mixes, tempo, choreography, common vocab, work, craft, drill, team, time, counting, working backwards, notes, repetition, fellowship, and yes, you will sweat!

Traveling with Isolations: (2 hours) Think you have mastered your isolations? Come test your skills with us as we take those isolations and travel with them in unique ways you may not have thought of. This workshop will focus on training your mind and body to think and move in new ways. Please make sure you come with more than a basic mastery of tribal isolations and an open mind!!!

Tired of the same old zill patterns? Want to add some complexity to your rhythms and technique? Sahira and Zymirrah will teach a series of common sense patterns to match tribal basic moves and some not-so-basic moves.

That's right. Within only two hours we're gonna blow your minds by giving you twenty new moves/combinations. That's six minute/move, so a firm foundation in bellydance is recommended, but beginners are welcome. Amy's Art of Overlay is at the heart of this bellydance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results. Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Journey into the mysterious world of henna, an ancient form of temporary body art. In this hands on class we will explore how henna is made, including how you can customize your henna paste to bring about good fortune, love, and health. We’ll continue our travels by learning “secrets” to creating professional looking henna art, even as a beginner. Then the fun really begins as you grab your henna cone to decorate yourself or a friend! In this workshop you will learn a full choreography, which will showcase the marriage of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance with the elements of the Goth/Industrial subculture. We will discuss and learn the fundamentals of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance including proper posture and technique, specific moves and transitions, leading and following, group improvisation, dance expression and costuming. We will also explore and learn ways to infuse the look, personality, music and essence of the Goth/Industrial subculture into this dynamic dance style. Choreography for Partners: Semi-private/Small Class Format (2 hours) This workshop will focus on dancing with a partner, including traveling and moving around your partner, and interacting with your partner in unique ways. In this fast paced class, every movement will be outlined and drilled, then combined to form the final choreography. No need to feel you have to come with a partner, there are always plenty to go around! This class is designed for more intermediate/ advanced dancers, but options will be presented to change moves for beginner students.

In this workshop, we will start with some of the basics of Indian dance such as eye, neck and hip movements and mudras (hand gestures). We will then learn steps and combinations applied in Bollywood numbers. The list of moves is endless so come with your dance feet ready! We will progress to some Bhangra moves which are sure to get your blood flowing! Finally, we will incorporate some of the Bollywood and Bhangra moves into a short, fun choreography.

Experience and familiarity with Suhaila style training is a prerequisite for this class. (Class is from 11a> 4pm with an hour break for lunch)

Could your dance use a revolution? Then this is the class for you! In this workshop, we'll focus on incorporating spins and turns into your performance repertoire. We will begin with basic turning technique and an overview of common spins and turns used in tribal fusion bellydance. Building on this foundation, we'll learn several fun and exciting combinations accented with (you guessed it!) turns. SMALL CLASS SIZE (6) ALLOWS FOR ONE on ONE ATTENTION : The student should bring a working knowledge of poi spinning to this class. We will begin by focusing on intermediate tricks, transitions, and postures to enhance your performance. We will then pay special attention to those tricks which can be adapted to allow the integration of dance movement. Discussion and handouts on fire safety will also be presented.

More veils are lifted as we continue our journey into the mysterious world of henna. In this hands on class we will be traveling deeper into more intricate and advanced henna designs while taking a look at their meanings and the folklore surrounding them. We’ll focus on what designs work best for performances, secrets of “breaking down” a complex design, where to place your henna, and how to compliment your costume with henna. Our henna tour will finish with you creating a beautiful henna design on yourself or a friend. **It is strongly recommended that you take Hands on Henna for Belly Dancers- Basic Designs and Making Henna Paste OR that you have had some henna experience using cones.

This workshop will focus on integrating floorwork into your tribal repertoire and will be presented in a series of combinations. Every moment will be outlined and drilled, then combined to form the final choreography. Because of the extensive floor work kneepads are a must! This class is designed for more intermediate/ advanced dancers, but options will be presented to change moves for beginner students.

Triplets? BORING! Beladi? Forgeddaboudit! Sahira and Joachim introduce you to some rockin rhythms that you may have never heard before but certainly do not want to live without. Drummers and zillers will build the rhythm from the base DOOM to the last TAK and will learn to play and dance in and around these rhythms to create more interesting and complex patterns with them. Experience with basic Middle Eastern rhythms encouraged... please bring your own drum and/or zills!

“HOT POT TURBO TRIBAL TRICKS" Strap-on your jet-packs. In this workshop you’ll get the skinny on what happens when you let off a lot of steam while dancing really good, really fast. You’ll learn and drill original combos snatched directly from the Hot Pot Studio tribal vocabulary, both equipped for improv and ready for show. You will have fun. You will sweat. You will be inspired. And after class when you’re sore and on the floor, remember, “Horsepower” is defined as work done over time. We just teach you the tricks.

Want to be the one to set hips to shakin'? Hate your neighbors? Need a better understanding of rhythm? Come learn to drum! Focused on the beginning drummer but all are welcome. A drum is needed in order to participate (dumbek, djembe or frame drum). Two hours of basic technique, middle eastern rhythms and practice. ENJOY!

Explore the grace and ‘perceived’ peril that dancing with a sword brings to your performance. Students should bring a sword, knee pads and a basic balancing ability. Zymirrah will dig into her past when her sword was always at her side. She will demonstrate and drill basic to intermediate sword skills including: multiple balance points, level and direction changes, spinning & floorwork. Add drama to your dance with your new dance partner… your sword!

Choreography - Large Class Format - All levels welcome

In this class, we will be focusing on the details down to the fingertips. Learn to stylize your performance by really cleaning it up. One of the great things about Tribal, is that it is becoming a universal language. If you know the basics, you can dance with anyone else from anywhere else in the world without any words at all. But, with all those cues, details are a must. Another great thing about Tribal is the Fusion aspect of it. Tribal is ever changing, ever growing and through this even the most simple of steps can become something amazing-especially if clean clear movements come shining through. Come play with us and get your Fusion on! Bring your kneepads and a yoga mat if you have one.
